The Nine Edges challenge is a 20-mile off-road route that can be walked, run, or climbed. Edale Mountain Rescue hosts the event in the Peak District each September, with the route starting at Derwent Dam and ending at the Robin Hood Inn.
Kevin was joined at the 13th mile by Andrew's aunty Alison. They completed the route together taking just over 7 hours for the full 20 miles, and enjoyed a well-earned drink at the Robin Hood Inn.
Kevin - Andrew's dad and trustee for the foundation - had previously completed the Nine Edges walk in 2017 and 2018 with Andrew, in the two years before Andrew's passing. This year he did so again to raise funds for the foundation, bringing in an amazing total of £1145 in donations.
After the walk Kevin posted this update on the JustGiving page -
"We successfully completed the walk just after 3pm on Saturday 14th September. Total walking distance was 21 miles, in a respectable time of 7 hours and 4 minutes (there was a bit of a delay in the walking when Alison joined at the checkpoint as we chatted to Edale Mountain Rescue volunteers and had a few photos taken). Once Alison joined for the final 7 miles we kept up the pace of 3 miles per hour, but there are only a few photos as we were too busy talking as we walked (especially about Andrew), almost missing a turn towards the Robin Hood Inn at the end. The weather was perfect for walking, cool but sunny early on and T-shirt weather in the afternoon. The single beer at the end tasted amazing. An added bonus we hit an amazing £1000 just before Alison joined. Also, there were very few aching muscles or joints the day after."
"A huge thank you to everyone who donated, I think Andrew would have been very proud"
