The Nine Edges challenge is a 20 mile off road route with about 2900 metres of height gain across the high moorland and gritstone edges from Fairholmes (Derwent Dam) to the Robin Hood Inn near Baslow. The route can be walked, run or climbed, and takes in Derwent, Stanage, Burbage (North and South), Froggatt, Curbar, Baslow, Gardoms and Birchen Edges. Each of the Edges is a steep cliff - like slope, which offer fabulous views of the surrounding countryside.
Kevin took Andrew’s soft toy penguin for company for the first 4 Edges. At the 13 mile point, with another 5 Edges still to go, he was joined by Andrew's Mum Jude and Aunt Alison. The three plus penguin completed the route together in just over 7 hours for the full 20 miles, and once again enjoyed a well-earned drink at the Robin Hood Inn.
Kevin - Andrew's dad and trustee for the foundation - had previously completed the Nine Edges walk in 2017 and 2018 with Andrew, in the two years before Andrew's passing. This year he did so again to raise funds for the foundation, bringing in an amazing total of £800 in donations.
"We successfully completed the walk just after 3pm on Saturday 13th September. Total walking distance was 21 miles, in 7 hours and 11 minutes, 7 minutes longer than last year. The weather in the morning was cooler than last year, but dry apart from a torrential downpour just as Jude and Alison arrived. Thankfully the sun came out soon after and we all dried out as we continued to walk.’’
"A huge thank you once again to everyone who donated, I think Andrew would have been very proud"
